'Tis The Season!

November 29, 2023, 8:00 PM

Christmas is upon us! We've got a lot of fun events going on over the next month, so we felt making a post detailing them all was in order.

Boys Ranch Town Christmas Pageant

The Boys Ranch Town, located a mile and a half west of Arcadia Lake in Edmond, has put on a drive-thru Christmas pageant of various scenes showcasing the true story of Christmas every December for over 50 years. The staff and residents begin preparations for the pageant in the fall, setting up scenes and recording the audio soundtrack. All of the actors in the pageant are residents of Boys Ranch Town. Starting on December 1st and going through the 3rd, from 7 to 9 pm, the ranch town will be open to the public, free of charge, to visit the pageant.

We will be meeting at the church on December 3rd at 6pm to drive out to the Boys Ranch Town compound and see the pageant put on by the ranch town residents. If you are able to come visit, we highly encourage it — the pageant assembled by everyone at Boys Ranch Town is quite a wonderful spectacle.

December Movie Night

We've set the date for our next movie night! On December 15th at 7pm, we'll be showing the 1946 certified Christmas classic, directed by Frank Capra, It's a Wonderful Life. The film centers around the life of George Bailey, a man who has given up on his personal dreams in order to help others in his community, and whose thoughts of suicide on Christmas Eve bring about the intervention of his guardian angel, Clarence Odbody. The plot synopsis reads as follows:

Nestled in the idyllic town of Bedford Falls, It's a Wonderful Life unveils the life and journey of George Bailey, a man who is defined by his own compassionate actions and selflessness. His altruistic nature is tested, however, when faced with a dire financial crisis on Christmas Eve. Overwhelmed and contemplating a tragic decision, George's path intersects with Clarence Odbody, a charming guardian angel-in-training who aspires to earn his celestial wings. Together, they embark on a poignant odyssey through an alternate reality, one where George discovers the stark consequences of his potential absence from the lives of those he holds dear. In this enduring and cherished holiday classic, the narrative not only captures the spirit of the season but also serves as a powerful reminder of the profound impact one life can have on an entire community. It's a Wonderful Life continues to warm hearts, serving as a beacon of hope, and a testament to the enduring power of compassion and human connection.

Rated PG (for thematic elements and some violence), It's a Wonderful Life stars James Stewart (Vertigo, Rear Window) as George Bailey, Donna Reed (From Here to Eternity, The Picture of Dorian Gray) as Mary Hatch, and Lionel Barrymore (You Can't Take It With You, Grand Hotel) as Mr. Potter.

"The Grinch" Christmas Party

On December 17th at 11am, we'll be having our annual Christmas party, consisting of a special church service, potluck dinner, and gift exchange! As with last year, the theme will once again be "The Grinch". Feel free to bring your favorite family recipe, holiday dish, or any other favorite foods that you associate with Christmas. Please note that there will be no potluck dinner on December 31st, as it has been moved to reflect our Christmas party.

Our Christmas gift exchange will be after church service and potluck dinner. We strongly recommend that everyone bring one gift per person, with the gift's value exceeding no more than $20. This ensures that everyone has a chance to participate in the gift exchange. Gifts must be labeled accordingly for gender and age (youth or adult). Children will be able to exchange with other children.

Our Christmas party is always quite a special time, and we hope everyone that is able to come will join us for some food, fellowship, and festive fun.

Jesus' Birthday Celebration

On December 24th, alongside our church service at 11am, we will be observing a special Christmas communion as well as ending the "Countdown to Christmas" sermon series with a special finale sermon given by Pastor Fred. If you are searching for something to do for the holiday, we will gladly welcome anyone who would like to come hear the true mesage of Christmas.
